The Skincare Dream on a Budget: From Saving to Selling

As I've detailed in previous posts this story begins with me deciding it was time to take care of myself for once. Having 3 teenage boys, working, and daily household grind had taken their toll and I had fallen into the habit of neglecting myself. I'd already decided to start taking care of my skin, done the research on my Google machine, and settled on trying the wonderful world of Nu Skin products. While they are known for their remarkable skincare and well-being products and I was excited to begin, I faced the dilemma of budget constraints.

My youngest son was ready for another season of baseball, we needed a new push mower (cause paying someone to cut the grass isn't an option), my 16 year old son was ready to start driving, we still need to finish the patio project we started 15 months ago, and on and on and on. The main reason of why I neglected this for so long was staring me right in the face. Our disposable income gets disposed of really quickly each month. Plus my husband kept telling me that I was beautiful just the way I was, which was oddly annoying at this exact moment in time. I wanted encouragement to better myself, not encouragement to stay the same. Luckily, I was born stubborn and I was going to make this work.

My first idea was to save small bits from my monthly expenses and eliminate a few guilty pleasures. I decided to cut back on some non-essential purchases, like dining out, grabbing that smoothie while running errands, or those impulse buys (Reese's cups in the check out line at the grocery store). It was amazing how these small changes started to add up over time, and cutting these splurges out were making a noticeable difference in my body. However, the process was admittedly slower than I had hoped. At the rate of 1 Reese's per shopping trip it would take roughly 3 months to be able to buy a tube of lotion. That's a lot of self denial and that dang Reese's was apparently something I really looked forward to because I was really missing it.

It was at this point that my friend, and my Nu Skin distributor of choice noticed my struggle and offered a unique opportunity that would prove to be a turning point in my journey. My friend suggested an idea – posting a Nu Skin sales post on my Facebook page. Initially, I was skeptical about sharing promotional content, but she assured me it would be a casual and genuine approach.

With a bit of hesitation, I decided to give it a try. I posted about the ageLOC Dermatic Effect Body Contouring Lotion and how it had transformed my skin. I shared before-and-after photos that genuinely captured the visible improvements. My friends, curious about my post started to inquire, one friend even asked if my account had been hacked, and my post gained momentum.

To my surprise, the post resulted in me selling over $2,000 worth of this firming cream in just a weekend. The responses were overwhelming. Friends and family who had previously hesitated to try Nu Skin were now eager to experience its benefits for themselves. Not only did I make enough money to purchase my Nu Skin products, but I also realized the joy of helping others discover the transformative power of these products. It was a win-win situation that brought both financial relief and a sense of satisfaction.

My journey to fit skincare products into my budget had been a tough road, but I got there. I had quite a bit of spending power and not a clear sense of where to start. I wanted to spend the money smart because I knew success would build momentum. Up next, I detail the 3 - 4 products I started using first.
